DICOM: The Fine Art of Image Management in Medicine
Images are becoming ever more important in ophthalmological diagnosis. Here integration of the differing IT systems plays an important role. Systems and devices are only compatible because of the international standard: DICOM. Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine (DICOM) for instance determines interfaces between PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems) and EMR (Electronic Medical Record) applications . The DICOM standard has been promoted and used by the ifa Group since 1997. ifa was a founding member of WG-9, a special working group for ophthalmology, in which it has represented the industry for many years.
