The ifa story

The abbreviation ifa stands for “intelligent future applications” for eye care professionals worldwide. ifa has been on the market for more than 20 years. Its headquarters are located in Frechen/Cologne (Germany), with branches in Berlin, Vienna (Austria) and Fort Lauderdale/Florida. The more than 50 ifa team members are also the main owners (shareholders) of the public company, which is listed at the “Deutsche Boerse Frankfurt”.

The ifa success story began more than 20 years ago and today every morning approx. 7,000 ophthalmic surgeons, ophthalmologists, technicians and clerks in eye care environments switch on their computers and see the ifa trademark with the red dot on the screen. They are supported by the team in Germany via phone (with tele- or video conferencing) or email from 7.00 a.m. to 11.00 p.m. (16 hours) Central European time. 

The range of ifa software for ophthalmology offers more than 40 modules with over 18,000 features and functions. More than 100 man years have been spent developing all software components including the EMR (Electronic Medical Record) and QM (Quality Management) software. ifa offers more than 400 digital interfaces to all kinds of ophthalmic instruments, image systems and software applications. Data of more than 50 million patients is stored in ifa databases in 12 countries worldwide.
