Clinic Projects

The introduction of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system or QM (Quality Management) software in an eye clinic is a complex process. Therefore the key for success is a professional preparation. The compendium for introducing EMR software in an eye care environment was developed by the ifa team. For the decision process for the suitable IT solution, our experts (users, vendors and associations) developed a checklist for the selection of ophthalmic IT. Registry and Quality Outcome Projects

Ophthalmic Informatics (Research) Projects

In the late 1990s the ifa team has already participated in international IT research projects in ophthalmology such as the EU project OPHTEL. This telematics project which was sponsored by the European Community with approx. 2.5 million Euro, set the focus on structured data storage and data exchange in eye care. Pilot applications have been developed for chronicle eye diseases like glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy (DR).
Based on these concepts the GlaucoCard project was realized together with the European Glaucoma Society (EGS). Within this project patient data is stored in web based glaucoma records to support joint glaucoma management based on standardized datasets. The first phase of the project was sponsored by MSD International, ifa systems AG and integration.AG.

Last year, ifa systems AG in cooperation with integration.AG won a professional tender bidding process which resulted in the world's largest IT project in ophthalmology - EUREQUO (European Registry of Quality Outcomes for Cataract and Refractive Surgery). ifa and integration are the exclusive IT providers in this project which is realized together with the ESCRS, the EU and the 12 national ophthalmic societies.

The latest project ifa systems AG has been approved for is OPHTEL2010, a project in the field of research on the EMR implementation process which is sponsored by IOTA (International Ophthalmic Technology Association).

Cooperation and network projects

Cooperation and networking of physicians is becoming increasingly popular in all national healthcare systems. Together with its cooperation partner integration.AG the ifa team developed projects in which ophthalmologists co-manage eye care patients. Examples of these projects are networks for ophthalmic surgeons and their referring offices, networks for pharmaceutical benefit management (studies) etc.

Standardization projects

Since 1997 the ifa team has supported international standards in ophthalmic information technology. Within the DICOM WG-9 (ophthalmology) ifa was the first software partner for EMR systems. The IHE project, promoted by the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), is also sponsored by ifa systems AG.
