Digital Connectivity and Data Management in Ophthalmology (IHE) Print

The IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) project has the goal to evaluate and support IT standards in ophthalmic environments like DICOM, HL7, SNOMED (terminology) etc.  It was launched with the objective to integrate a hospital's IT and imaging systems and their capabilities to interchange information without restrictions.

Area: Interoperability in heterogenous IT environments in ophthalmic enterprises or networks
Context: Evaluation of medical IT standards dedicated to ophthalmology (IHE Eye Care – Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise). The project is coordinated by the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).
History: Start 2005 ongoing
Environment: Local and remote (web based) IT infrastructures, e.g. EMR - HIS, EMR - quality assurance projects, diagnostic devices - EMR or other applications
Datasets: All kinds of ophthalmic data including device data (e.g. IOL Master, Pentacam, OCT, VA, AR, LM, PHOR, NCT etc.)
Reporting: e.g. DICOM SR (Structured Reporting)
Specialty: Evaluation of applications based on HL7, DICOM and related standards. IHE Eye Care components are presented by the approved provider at special events (e.g. Technology Pavilion at the Annual Meeting of the AAO).
Solution provider: ifa systems AG (registered participant)
integration.AG (component development)
