ASCRS in San Francisco Marked by Clinical Data Management Print

The Annual Meeting of the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) in San Francisco was strongly marked by the factors of quality and innovation in the area of healthcare. International ophthalmology (eye care) is currently undergoing significant changes: diagnostics and therapy are more and more characterized by high tech. Laser technology is being applied even more than before in cataract and refractive surgery and is based on clinical data management (research and quality assurance).

In San Francisco the ifa group of companies presented more innovative Health IT applications for this area: clinical decision support systems (CDSS), data systems for clinical studies etc. In addition to developing the EMR (Electronic Medical Record) further, the international expansion of the EUREQUO quality network has been put on the agenda for the target group of ophthalmic surgeons. A decision on carrying out an international IT project for evaluating the surgical outcome of Femto Assisted Cataract Surgery (FACS) has been made together with the ESCRS (European Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery).

At the ASCRS the ifa team additionally presented an extended documentation system for Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC). This system complements EMR-based (Electronic Medical Record) clinical documentation in surgery centers and is already being evaluated by major US clinics.

The ifa team is now already on its way to participate in the next international congress: the ARVO’s Annual Meeting in Seattle, USA.
