ifa group of companies presents Health IT innovations in Chicago Print

Information technology is becoming more and more important in the field of health care. Clinical Decision Support Systems are the future means of medicine to increase the efficiency and quality of patient care. At the AAO, the biggest international eye care congress, which took place in Chicago (US) this year, the ifa group of companies presented a new generation of software designed for the clinical optimization of patient care based on guidelines.

ifa’s “Clinical Decision Support Agent” (CDSA) allows for filtering cases and for providing relevant treatment guidelines. The “Electronic Chart Monitor”, another new program, is an additional intelligent function of the ifa EMR (Electronic Medical Record), which constantly checks entries made by clinical teams and ophthalmologists (eye doctors) for completeness and compatibility. In this way also less experienced ophthalmologists may make optimized decisions in the areas of diagnosis and treatment planning.

An additional innovation presented at the AAO is a software for the area of ophthalmology that attends to diabetic patients. INOVEON Inc., 100% subsidiary of ifa systems AG and based in Oklahoma (US), introduced a new telemedicine system. It allows for identifying and treating diabetes patients in time, who in western countries have a 20 percent risk of suffering from severe retinal diseases. At the end of November of 2012 ifa and INOVEON will be presenting the telemedicine system to a committee of the government of Saudi Arabia in the course of a tendering process. It is envisaged that approx. 6 million diabetes patients will be taken care of via a teleretinal system.
